Q: What is a telemeeting?
A:  A meeting for those in recovery from Sexual Addiction that is held via a telephone conference call.

Those who attend are people working together to lead healthy lives and have healthy sexual relationships. It is not a place where people go to pick up others or share explicit details about their sexual behavior.

For more information about Sex Addicts Anonymous (SAA), go to the SAA homepage.

Q: How does the telemeeting work?
A:  You will dial a teleconferencing server and enter the passcode. All atendees will be automatically joined together in the call. A secretary leads the meeting.

Q: How much does it cost?
A:  The only cost is your usual long distance rate multiplied by the number of minutes the meetings lasts. This charge will appear on your regular telephone bill as a long distance call.

Note: Calling cards may be available from local merchants for rates as low as 4 cents per minute. These charges do not appear on your phone bill.

Q: Who can attend?
A:  A variety of meetings are offered. A Mixed meeting is open to men and women who have a desire to stop their addictive sexual behavior. Other meetings are available for men or women only. The Double Winners meeting is open to those with sexual addiction or who are a co-dependent of a sex addict.

Q: What happens during a telemeeting?
A:  The telemeeting follows a structure that is very similar to face to face SAA meetings. Each meeting is led by a secretary. It is the secretary's role to welcome callers, to guide callers throughout the meeting, and to maintain a safe environment for everyone.

Although each telemeeting may have a slightly different format, all meetings follow a similar structure.

Welcome Callers are welcomed to the meeting.
Introduction The secretary begins the meeting with a brief introduction.
Serenity prayer Everyone
Readings Program-related readings are shared.
- The Opening
- How it Works and the 12 Steps
- The abstinence Statement

The secretary will ask for volunteers to read. You are encouraged to download the readings and participate either by reading, or by following along. Some meetings have an electronic version of their readings that they provided.

Sobriety birthdays Callers are invited to share their successes in time away from the behaviors they are working on during recovery.
General introductions  Callers are encouraged to identify themselves by first name and the location from which they are calling.
Members who acknowledge that they are sex addicts will say something like, "Hi, I'm Bob. I'm a sex addict calling from San Francisco."

Guests or newcomers are invited to introduce themselves by name and location, and to identify that they are new to the meeting so we can get to know you.

Guest reading Depending upon the format of the meeting, many meetings include a reading or topic that provides a focus for the discussion that follows. This reading is pre-selected by a member and may be from the SAA Basic text or other resources. The reading will frequently focus on one of the 12 steps.
Discussion The meeting opens for discussion. The secretary helps moderate as callers are invited to share about the reading or just 'get current.' "Crosstalk," which means direct comment about someone's share, is discouraged to help keep the meeting a safe environment. Sharing is optional, although encouraged.
Anonymity Anonymity is the spiritual foundation of all our traditions.
Seventh Tradition Callers are encouraged to contribute to the continued work of bringing the message of recovery to other sex addicts.
Announcements Meeting-related announcements.
Serenity Prayer Everyone
Fellowship Callers ask questions, respond to shares, and socialize. Callers are welcome to stay on the call as long as desired.
